2025 - 2026 Texas Academy Admission Application

The Texas Academy is a high school located on the Lamar University campus. Qualifying students will have completed Algebra II and all other requirements for 10th grade by Fall 2024 in order to graduate high school in two years on the Distinguished Achievement Plan. Accepted students will need to unenroll from their current high school once the official acceptance letter is received. More details may be found by contacting us, or on our website.

To complete this application, you will need the following:

1) Resume - Needs to include academic achievements, award/honors, extracurricular activities, and service from 8th grade to present.
2) Formal Essay - Needs to describe yourself, interests, and future goals.
3) A recent photo of yourself - this helps us when reviewing applicants after interviews, and will also be the photo used for a social media post if accepted. Please make sure this is a photo in good lighting, and projects the image of a member of an elite academic program.
4) Recommender Name/Email(s) - Teacher, Counselor, Additional Recommender -- view application for additional details depending on what type of school you attend.
5) $25 Application Fee - All applicants must pay the $25 non-refundable application fee upon submission of the application. If admitted, the remaining $75 will be due at the time of accepting your admissions offer.

Recommender Information

Students applying to Texas Academy must list a teacher and counselor, and one additional recommender below. Once you submit your application, each recommender will receive a ranking form.

What should you look for in a recommender?

The recommender should NOT be related to you and should be someone that knows you well -- Someone you’ve worked closely with that can accurately evaluate your work ethic and character within the last 1-2 years. They should also be able to speak / elaborate on different aspects of you, your personality, and the things you’ve done and accomplished.

Student attending a homeschool while applying to Texas Academy must list contacts for a counselor (p and two additional recommenders. Once you submit you application, each recommender will receive a ranking form.

NOTE: Your counselor will be who oversees your transcript. If you do not have a teacher, other than a parent, you must list two adults that can speak about your character -- they cannot be a relative.
