Rising 7th and 8th graders are invited for a week-long day camp where they will participate in hands-on activities and lessons intended to introduce them to the concepts of engineering and the various disciplines of the field. Campers will work with faculty members and LU engineering students, as well as guest engineers from local industry, throughout the week. Grades and teacher recommendations are required. Space is limited. We will review applications and notify students who have been accepted no later than May 1.
Date: June 10-14, 2024
Time: 9am - 4pm daily with the exception of Wednesday, Wednesday will be 8 am to 5 pm.
Fee: LITE Camp is offered at no cost to campers thanks to industry sponsorship

Camper Code of Conduct

Every participant, faculty, and staff associated with LITE Camp is to be treated with dignity and respect.

Campers are not allowed to leave campus. Anyone caught off campus will be sent home.

Please do not run, yell, or make excessive noise (except during recreation}.

Wear shoes and proper clothing at all times.

Please use proper conduct while in the dining hall. After you have eaten your meal, please put away your tray and dispose of all trash.

If you are sick or injured, please notify your team leader, or come to the Science & Technology building immediately.

Use vending machines at your own risk. Lamar University is not responsible for lost change.

The schedule for the day is to be observed.

The drinking and/or possession of alcoholic beverages is strictly forbidden during camp.

The possession, use, and distribution of illegal substances/drugs are strictly prohibited.

Possessing and using weapons or firearms of any sort is strictly prohibited.

Vandalism, disturbing the peace, or inappropriate behavior during camp will not be tolerated.

Any damage will be the financial responsibility of the person(s) responsible.

The possession, use, and distribution of tobacco products are not permitted at any time during camp. This includes all e-cigarettes and “vapes.”

Campers are not permitted to use cell phones during academic sessions or recreation.

Any act by a camper that violates federal, state, provincial, or local law will be a violation of this Code of Conduct.

Campers and parents will sign a copy of this Code of Conduct and provide complete medical information and a release form.

Any additional rules pertinent to a specific event shall be announced by the Camp Director or administration and shall be observed as part of this Code of Conduct.

Field Trip - Space Center Houston

We will be taking an off-campus Field Trip on Wednesday, June 12th. Campers will be transported for a field trip by university shuttle to NASA/Space Center Houston in Houston, TX. The hours of camp for this day will be 8 AM - 5 PM. Does the student have permission to participate in the field trip?

Buses will leave promptly at 8:30 AM on Wednesday. If your student is joining us Wednesday, please be sure to be at the Science & Technology building no later than 8:00 AM. Buses will arrive back on campus at 4:30 PM and campers will need to be picked up by 5:00 PM.

There will be no alternate activities for Wednesday if you miss the bus or choose not to join us for NASA.

Activity Release and Indemnity Agreement
